If you want an intro to Linguistics for the purpose of reading Pollard and Sag, you could try: %A Robert\0D. Borsley %T Modern Phrase Structure Grammar %I Blackwell %C Oxford %D 1996 which has just hit the streets If this is still gives you problems, you will find that almost any introduction to linguistics will have a chapter on syntax. If terminology is the problem, Larry Trask has just published a dictionary of linguistic terminology, but I don't have the title or other details (his email is larryt@cogs.susx.ac.uk) Doug Arnold ------------------------------------------------------------------ Doug Arnold, doug@essex.ac.uk Dept. of Language & Linguistics, http://clwww.essex.ac.uk/~doug University of Essex, Wivenhoe Park, Tel: +44 1206 872084 (direct) Colchester, CO4 3SQ, UK.
