Can I ask another little data question, please? It's about those fronted partial VP that include the subject, like (1). (1) Ein wirklicher Fehler unterlaufen war ihm noch nie. A real error happened was to-him still not What happens if the fronted subject is plural? Does the auxiliary change? E.g. (2) Wirkliche Fehler unterlaufen waren ihm noch nie. I have no idea what the answer is going to be, but I know what I'd like it to be! ============================================================================ Prof Richard Hudson Tel: +44 171 387 7050 ext 3152 E-mail: r.hudson@ling.ucl.ac.uk Dept. of Phonetics and Linguistics Tel: +44 171 380 7172 Fax: +44 171 383 4108 UCL Gower Street London WC1E 6BT UK
