(Apologies to everyone who's already gotten this message). The paper that Tom Hukari and I are giving at the Copenhagen HPSG conference presupposes a set of arguments that adjunct extraction as a subspecies of filler/gap linkage is available a possibility of universal grammar and that English adjunct extraction constructions are an instantiation of this possibility. These arguments are presented in our paper `Adjunct extraction' available by anonymous ftp to the ling network at OSU. The full address is ling.ohio-state.edu and the path to the PostScript textfile, once you've logged in, is pub/HPSG/Workshop.LLI.94/huk-levine-adjex.ps.Z Please note that this textfile has undergone unix compression. There are several other papers available in pub/HPSG/Workshop.LLI.94 which are pertinant to the issues that are being discussed at the 1994 HPSG Workshop. Bob Levine
